The Surnames List makes it possible for Hamilton County Genealogical Society (HCGS) members to share information with other members on surnames of interest. There are two ways to search the database:

1) Type the name into the search box. Click on the "magnifier" icon. To remove a surname, click on the "broom" icon.

2) You can also browse the surname in the list. The default view is an ascending alphabetical sort by surname. Each column can be sorted in ascending or descending order by clicking on the column heading.

3. You have two choices under the “Actions” heading.

If you click on the “eye” symbol, you will see all the information has been supplied for this surname. Clicking on the “envelope” will allow you to correspond with the submitter. A form will pop up enabling you to email the person who provided the information.

Remember: You must have enabled the option to receive email in your member profile.

Using the Surname Research List This downloadable document contains directions for using the Surname Research List that is a part of the website. After clicking on the link, you can print the file or save it to your computer. You must be an HCGS member to be able to add names to the Surname List.
