This is the first segment of the live webinar given on April 15, 2023, that covered the many categories of local genealogical records, educational materials on the website, and where to locate the records, including in databases, both public and member-only, on the website. The presenters also talk briefly about lineage societies, HCGS videos, using surname database, and interest groups.  The panel answered questions at the end.

Beginning Genealogical Research in Hamilton County, Ohio, presented September 18, 2021 by Hamilton County Genealogical Society. Learn about the basic principles of genealogy, the importance of solid record keeping, and how to search for records about Hamilton County ancestors. The CHPL Digital Library for Genealogists, presented February 11, 2023 by Larry Richmond, Genealogy & Local History Department Manager.  Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library (CHPL) is constantly digitizing rare print materials and making them accessible to the local community and researchers worldwide. Larry discusses the wealth of genealogical material in the HCGS digital library and how to access and search the digital records. Particular attention is given to those collections that benefit genealogists the most, including City Directories, Maps, and Cemeteries.  
Researching Roman Catholic Church Records - Tips & Tricks, by Jeff Herbert — Presented at the Kolping Center on July 11, 2019. The Archdiocese of Cincinnati Roman Catholic sacramental records have recently been released through Findmypast. Transcripts are currently available and record images will be posted in the future. Jeff Herbert discusses effective use of these records for researching your Hamilton County ancestors. Tips include how to navigate through the records in Latin, the prevalence of ethnic parishes in the 19th Century, and strategies for using information contained in these records to overcome those difficult family research barriers. An example of a Hamilton County Irish family demonstrates the use of all available resources to successfully trace the family back into their ancestral homeland in Ireland.
