HCGS Research Services
The Hamilton County Genealogical Society (HCGS) offers fee-based Research Services as described below in Marriage and Death Notices Indexes Search and HCGS Publications Indexes / Surname Card File Search. If you wish to hire a professional researcher, or are an HCGS member and want to offer your research services, see the List of Paid Researchers below.
Marriage and Death Notices Indexes Search
The Marriage and Death Notices search includes:
- Index of Death Notices - Over 173,000 death notices from 1818-1920 have been abstracted from seven newspapers and published in seven books. The contents of each book now exist in the HCGS database, Index to Death Notices, 1818-1920.
A typical index entry consists of Name (Last name, Given name), Notice date(s), Death date if given in the notice, Maiden name if given, and Age at Death if given. Some entries also include an indicator (asterisk) that the Place of Birth is given and some include the newspaper page.
- Marriage Index - Over 128,000 marriages from 1808-1884 have been indexed from the records of 60 Protestant churches, 49 Catholic churches, Probate Court records, and several newspapers. These indexes have been published in five books – Restored Hamilton County, Ohio, Marriages 1808-1849, 1850-1959, 1860-1869, 1870-1884, and Supplements 1850-1884. The contents of each book now exist in the HCGS database, Marriage Index, 1808-1884.
Each index entry has the names of the couple, marriage date, the institutional or newspaper source, and the archival or microfilm record source.
The books included in this search are all indexes to records, not copies of records themselves. Actual death certificates or marriage records are not provided. Copies of the index entries that relate to your research request will be provided.
