Save the date for the 2023 Heritage Luncheon and awards ceremony on 4 November 2023 at Clovernook Country Club in North College Hill. We will welcome new members into our Lineage Societies who have proven descent from one or more Hamilton County ancestors and celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Hamilton County Genealogical Society.
We have a great program to present. There are probably no more notable past residents of early Hamilton County than President William Henry Harrison and John Cleves Symmes. This year marks the 250th birthday of our ninth US President, William Henry Harrison. That celebration coincides with the return to Hamilton County of the famous sword owned by President Harrison’s father-in-law, John Cleves Symmes. The sword was passed through the family and carried by William Henry Harrison at his Presidential Inauguration in 1841.
Come and hear the story of the sword’s unbelievable disappearance and dubious discovery some seven hundred miles away and forty years later! Darlene West will be our storyteller. Darlene is the Regent of Governor Othniel Looker Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, based in southwest Cincinnati. She represents the DAR Chapter which sits on the board of the Symmes/Harrison Memorial Foundation. The Foundation and the Ohio History Connection oversee President Harrison's tomb and the Symmes/Harrison Museum nearby. Don’t miss this wonderful story of Hamilton County history.
We are also planning to celebrate the accomplishments and highlights from our fifty-year history. We plan to recognize our long-time members and volunteers through photos, awards, and mementos. This will be a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new ones.
